On February 26, a team led by Professor Dong Nianguo, Director of Cardiovascular Surgery Department, and Professor Xia Jiahong, successfully performed a heart transplant surgery for a 53-day-old, 3.9kg infant with dilated cardiomyopathy complicated with noncompaction of ventricular myocardium and end-stage heart failure.
So far, the infant’s has been extubated and steadily recovered with stable vital signs. Professor Dong Nianguo introduced that the infant will also face difficulties such as postoperative infection, rejection reaction and pulmonary hypertension. The medical team of Cardiovascular Surgery Department will provide all-round nursing services for her.
