On October 26, Mr. Ewen Walford Gillison visited Wuhan Union Hospital and gave a speech about the history of the hospital in front of hundreds of Union staff.
Dr. Tom Gillison, the grandparent of Mr. Ewen Walford Gillison, was a surgeon of Hankow Renji Hospital, the predecessor of Wuhan Union Hospital, and the first western surgeon in Wuhan. He became the first permanent medical officer of the hospital, since he commenced medical work in 1883.
At the time of the 150thAnniversary of Wuhan Union Hospital, the Gillisons came to Wuhan across the oceans from the UK to witness the great changes of the hospital.
Mr. Ewen Walford Gillison was born in the then Wuhan Union Hospital, and he left at the age of five. He’s always been concerning about the development of the hospital, and even written a book about the history:Wuhan Union Hospital—The first 84 years.
During his presentation, he said he was very proud that the career of his grandparent has been well continued and developed.
Dr. Guobin Wang, the president of Wuhan Union Hospital, attended the lecture and expressed his warm welcome to Mr. Gillison.
