"Wuhan Union Hospital and University of Duisburg-Essen Joint Academic Exchange Day" was held to Celebrate the 110th Anniversary of Tongji Medical College
On 20 May 2017, "Wuhan Union Hospital and University of Duisburg-Essen Joint Academic Exchange Day" was successfully held in our hospital. The day is filled with diverse activities, including an unveiling ceremony of the joint laboratory of infection and immunity between the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE) and the HUST, a conferring ceremony of appointing Prof. Jan Buer as the guest professor of HUST, and three academic forums in the fields of infection and immunity, hematology and medical education.
The first is an opening ceremony of the "Wuhan Union Hospital and University of Duisburg-Essen Joint Academic Exchange Day". The meeting was hosted by Prof. HUANG Kai, vice-president of Wuhan Union Hospital (WhUH). Prof. WANG Guobin, president of Wuhan Union Hospital, extended his warm welcome and sincere gratitude to the delegation from the Medical Faculty of Duisburg-Essen. In his address, he introduced WhUH’s accomplishments in clinical, research, teaching and other areas, emphasized on our development strategy of discipline, brand, talent and internationalization. He reviewed our cooperation with our German partner—the University of Duisburg-Essen, and expressed best wishes for a better future of the two sides through deeper and broader collaborations.
Prof. Jan Buer, dean of medical faculty of UDE, also presented a speech on behalf of the delegation. He thanked the WhUH faculty for their hospitality and looked forward to more concrete cooperation with WhUH in more fields.

Attendees from WhUH include Prof. WANG Guobin, standing member of HUST committee & president of WhUH, Prof. ZHANG Yu, chair of WhUH, Prof. AN Rui, vice-dean of Tongji Medical College & vice-president of WhUH, Prof. HU Yu, vice-president of WhUH and director of the Hematology Department, Prof. WANG Hongbo, vice-chair of WhUH, Mr. Ji Xianglian, vice-dean of the First Clinical School of HUST, and other directors of administrative and clinical departments.
The opening ceremony was followed by three academic forums, which were forum of hematology lectured by Prof. Peter Horn and Prof. HU Yu, forum of Infectious Diseases by Prof. Michael Roggendorf, Prof. Ulf Dittmer and Prof. YANG Dongliang, forum of Chinese and German Medical Education by Prof. Joachim Fandrey and Dean JI Xiangnian.
