Wuhan Union Hospital Partners with Pitié Salpêtrère affiliated to Paris VI University France

In the afternoon of June 23rd, Professor Pascal Leprince, Director of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery,La Pitié Salpêtrère Hospital, Pierre and Marie Curie University (also named “Paris VI University”) was welcomed by Professor AN Rui,Vice-President of Wuhan Union Hospital (abbreviated as “WhUH”), Professor DONG Nianguo, Director of the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of WhUH, and other heads of the departments including the Department of Human Resources, the Department of Scientific Research and the Office of International Exchanges. Professor Pascal Leprince was then conferred the guest professorship of Huazhong University of Science and Technology and signed a Memorandum of Collaboration with the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery of WhUH on behalf of the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery,La Pitié Salpêtrère Hospital of Paris VI University.

Both sides signed the Memorandum of Collaboration between the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Wuhan Union Hospital, China and the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, La Pitié Salpétrière Hospital, Pierre and Marie Curie University, France


It is known that the Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery of the La Pitié Salpêtrière Hospital affiliated to Paris VI University, initially founded by the pioneer cardiac surgeon Professor Christian Cabrol in 1972, represents one of the most prestigious cardiac centers in France and in the worldwide. Led by a renowned faculty, the department offers a wide array of outstanding clinical service, research and education programs with a deep commitment to developing and disseminating subspeciality expertise. The department has been recognized as the reference center of the management of advanced heart failure in France. It performs about 500 ECMO and 50 total artificial heart implantation, as well as 100 heart transplantation per year. In addition to its excellence in clinical service, the department is being committed to conducting fundamental and clinical researches.


According to the Memorandum of Collaboration between the two parties, collaborative activities will start from the areas including academic exchange, young doctor training, exchange of academic information and materials,etc. The partnership between the two departments will facilitate a further cooperation between the hospitals in the future.
