Department of Stomatology is the main unit of School of Stomatology, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology. It's authorized with National Resident Standardization Training Base, National Training of Clinical Teaching Demonstration Center. It also possesses National First-class Undergraduate Major Construction Site, Oral Medicine Doctor's Degree, Hubei Province Key Laboratory of Oral and Craniomaxillofacial Development and Regeneration, Hubei Province Excellent Primary-level Teaching Organizations, Hubei Province General Dentistry Center, and other excellent platforms as well.

It serves as Standing Committee Member of Chinese Stomatological Doctor Association, Elect President of Chinese General Dentistry Society (CGDS), Vice President of Society of Chinese Dental Research Administration, Vice President of Chinese Orthodontic Society (COS), President of Hubei Stomatological Doctor Association, Vice President of Hubei Stomatological Association.Furthermore, it acts as Vice Editor-in-chief of several journals such as Chinese Journal of Orthodontics, Journal of Clinical Stomatology et al.

Department of Stomatology is one of the largest dental centers in general hospital of China. It features exquisite clinical skills, solid research grounding and ample overall strength, enjoying a high reputation both at home and abroad. There are about 102 dental chairs, 86 ward beds, with 200,000 outpatients and emergency visits and 3,000 operations annually. There are 4 professors and 15 associate professors. 90% of the dentists under the age of 45 have Doctor's degrees from prestigious universities. The department has 11 divisions including Orthodontics, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Endodontics, Prosthodontics, Dental Implantology, Periodontics, Oral mucosalDisease, Pediatric Dentistry and Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, providing high-quality professional service for patients.

As a famous scientific research center, the department conducts a lot of hospital-based research programs sponsored by national and provincial grants, such as Major Projects of NSFC, Major International Cooperation Projects of NSFC, etc. The research interests include: 1. Craniofacial development and bone remodeling, 2. Mechanism of circadian rhythm in oral disease, such as oral cancer, developmental abnormalities of craniofacial bones et al. Over 200 papers have been published. Some are famous journals such as PNAS, Circ Res, Adv Sci, ACS Nano, Cancer Res, Biomaterials, etc.

The department has excellent performance on scientific research. It has won many National Grants including National Innovation Competition Award in 2020, Chinese Young Female Scientist in 2019, et al. It also won the First Prize of Science and Technology Progress Award in Hubei Province in 2013 and 2017, Second Prize in 2020.

The international exchanges and cooperation of stomatologic department is burgeoning in recent years. It has established cooperative relationship with more than 20 famous hospitals and universities in over 10 countries.
