Department of Neurology, founded in the 1970s, is one of the first batch of master's and doctor's training centers and resident training bases in China. It is a national key clinical specialty, Hubei Provincial sub-center of Neurology Medical Quality Control Center of National Health Commission, Central China training base of Stroke Quality Control Center of National Health Commission, Academician workstation (Academician Yang Xiong-li), and Stroke prevention and control professional Committee in Hubei Province, Neurology Medical Quality Control Center in Hubei Province, Stroke Medical Quality Control Center of Hubei Health Commission, President of Hubei stroke society, President of Hubei Sleep Research Association, etc.

Professor HU Bo is the leader of the department. At present, there are 229 employees, including 52 doctors, 167 nurses and 10 technicians, including 16 senior and 17 vice senior, 10 doctoral supervisors and 27 master supervisors. At present, there are 260 beds (Main Campus, West Campus and Jinyinhu Campus), with an annual outpatient volume of more than 220000 and an annual inpatient volume of more than 10000. The department has so many subdisciplines, including cerebrovascular disease, neurological intervention, Parkinson's disease and dyskinesia, neurological severe, neurological rehabilitation, neurogenetic degeneration, neuropsychology and dementia, epilepsy and sleep disorders, neuromuscular disease and neuroimmune disease, etc. The department has a cerebrovascular disease diagnosis and treatment center, carrying out acute ischemic cerebrovascular disease arteriovenous thrombolysis and neurovascular interventional therapy, cerebral blood flow perfusion / cerebrovascular dynamics examination, etc. It has established neuromuscular pathology and molecular biology examination laboratory and carried out nerve and muscle biopsy and histochemical staining, as well as gene diagnosis of common neurological diseases. It has an independent neuromuscular rehabilitation training center, where paralyzed patients have upper and lower limb robots for functional exercise rehabilitation and muscle dystonia patients can be treated with botulinum toxin. There is a neuroelectrophysiological center, which can carry out video EEG detection, sleep EEG monitoring and routine neuroelectromyography examination.

The level of scientific research and teaching of the department is in the leading position in China. Every year, more than 40 masters and doctors are trained, and more than 50 doctors are trained for further study and regular training. It has won 2 second prizes of national Science and Technology Progress, more than 10 provincial and ministerial Science and Technology Progress Awards, and undertaken more than 70 national, provincial and ministerial projects. More than 1400 papers have been published as the first or corresponding author, and more than 140 papers have been included in SCI, including influential academic papers published in international well-known journals such as cell, JAMA neurology, autophagy, J Neurol neurology psychology, EMBO mol Med, PNAS, J Neurosci, stroke, ATVB, Cardiovascular Res, FASEB, Glia, J Alzheimers DIS, etc.
