Brief introduction

Critical Care Medicine Department was established in 1993, which is equipped with a variety of advanced medical equipment, routinely develops various life support technologies such as ECMO, IABP, and CRRT, and conducts treatment for critically ill patients. There are various life monitoring methods such as critical ultrasound examination and PICCO monitoring. The department treats about 8000 patients each year, about 70-80% of patients supported by ventilator, 2000 cases per year for CRRT, and more than 30 cases per year for ECMO.

The department has a strong education background, which is certified as the master and doctoral degree granting point for the major of critical care medicine and has 2 doctoral supervisors and 3 master supervisors. There are 34 physicians in the Department of Critical Care Medicine, including 2 with senior professional titles, 6 with associate senior titles, 23 with doctoral degrees and 11 with master's degrees.

In the past 5 years, the Department of Critical Care Medicine has undertaken 11 projects from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, a number of provincial and ministerial projects, and has won a number of honors, such as the Youth Research Award of the Chinese Critical Care Medicine Association and the Hubei Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award. It is responsible for three national health industry standards including the "Standards for Clinical Application of Ventilators". The chief also serves as the deputy editor of "Critical Disease Medicine", which is a unified textbook for medical colleges and universities across the country. The department participated in the editing of many books on critical care medicine. Intensive medicine physicians also hold academic positions such as the chairman of the Hubei Provincial Intensive Medicine Association, the member of the Chinese Association of Intensive Medicine, and the youth committee of the Chinese Association of Intensive Medicine.

The Department of Critical Care Medicine has an excellent echelon of talents, selects outstanding young doctors to go abroad for further study and improves academic research and clinical management. Otherwise, the department undertakes the teaching of undergraduates, medical students and international students, trains residents in theory and clinical teaching, and provides advanced studies for doctors all over the country. There are more than 10 national and provincial medical continuing education classes hold every year.
