The Clinical Nutrition Department of Union Hospital was established in 1988.

The division is responsible for the hospitalized patients in the whole institute with nutrition therapy, including nutrition consultation ward round, nutrition education, nutrition, nutrition preparation, executive director of the physician, in the form of dietary advice, guidance and nutritional therapy for hospitalized patients diet, nutrition healthcare services, and supervising the preparation of therapeutic meals for inpatients and managing the preparation of nutrient solution for tube feeding.

Nutrition clinics were set up to provide diet guidance and nutrition treatment to outpatients and discharged patients. Through nutritional assessment, according to the needs of the disease recovery, combined with the patient's eating habits, personalized diet plans were suggested to patients. For patients with oral insufficiency or incapacity, a nutritional regimen based on medical food is provided.

In cooperation with obstetrics department, it sets up pregnancy nutrition class, which is the demonstration unit of "National Pregnancy Nutrition Class" awarded by Chinese Medical Doctor Association. Cooperating with endocrinology department, it sets up diabetes nutrition class and tumor nutrition class with Cancer Centre. In cooperation with paediatrics, children's nutrition classes are offered. It scientifically and objectively publicizes reliable nutrition knowledge.
