Brief introduction

The Emergency Surgery Department of Union Hospital was established in 1990. It consists of emergency outpatient clinics, rescue rooms and wards. After more than 20 years of construction and development, a professional medical team of trinity of emergency, first aid and surgery was formed. It has strong comprehensive strength in saving patients' lives, curing trauma, and treatment of patients with combined injuries, acute abdomen, complicated hepatobiliary, pancreatic, spleen, gastrointestinal, hernia and other difficult and critical surgical diseases. At present, there are 44 medical workers in the department, including 3 professors and chief physicians, 1 associate professor, 16 doctors and 7 masters. The technicians of the department have strong overall strength, high professional quality, strong clinical experience, frequent contacts with domestic and foreign experts and scholars, and a wide range of patients.


Since the establishment of the Emergency Surgery Department, the number of beds has gradually expanded from the initial 6 to the current 33, and the number of operations has also increased year by year, with an average of more than 500 operations completed each year. Among them, about 80% are emergency operations, and more than 100 critically ill patients are rescued annually. The success rate is 98%. At present, the department is vigorously carrying out high, difficult, urgent and severe operations that reflect the clinical level of the subject, and actively expanding new technologies and new businesses to maintain the national advanced level of clinical work.


The department specializes in diagnosis and treatment of the following diseases.

Trauma First Aid, first aid for multiple injuries and compound injuries caused by various reasons such as car accidents and falling from height,

Abdominal Emergency, first aid, diagnosis and treatment of abdominal traumatic diseases, and first aid, diagnosis and treatment of acute and critical abdominal diseases,

General Surgery, diagnosis and surgical treatment of common diseases such as liver and gallbladder, pancreas, gastrointestinal, external abdominal hernia and difficult and critical surgical diseases.


The department has achieved good results in the treatment of complex trauma, gastrointestinal bleeding, acute and severe pancreatitis, and elderly critically ill patients for many years. The annual number of operations for ruptured liver and spleen, pancreatic injury, gastrointestinal rupture, hepatobiliary and pancreatic and gastrointestinal common diseases and tumors is more than 300 cases, with a cure rate of 98%. It is in a leading position in this region, especially for multiple traumas and emergency and critical diseases with a rescue success rate of more than 95%. The department specializes in radical surgical treatment of gallbladder cancer, cholangiocarcinoma, gastric cancer and nodular cancer, minimally invasive liver and spleen surgery, standardized treatment of liver cancer, individualized treatment of portal hypertension with various shunts and devascularization operations, complex biliary surgery, retroperitoneal tumors surgery and so on. In recent years, it has actively expanded the application of new technologies such as minimally invasive technology in acute and severe diseases, e.g. laparoscopic gastric perforation repair, cholecystectomy, appendectomy, splenectomy, liver repair, pancreaticoduodenectomy, etc. The application of this technology has the characteristics of high surgical success rate, small trauma, quick recovery, and short hospitalization period.


The Emergency Surgery Department, a national training base for emergency physicians, has master's and doctoral degree in emergency medicine and general surgery. The department has successfully completed various teaching tasks for the seven-year program, undergraduates, advanced students, and nursing teaching. With completion of 24 class hours of large-scale lectures, 100% of associate professors of the department take part in the teaching for undergraduate, and usage of multimedia teaching is 100%. It achieved good results by summarizing previous teaching experience in the process of teaching and carrying out bold and innovative reforms in the teaching of emergency surgery. The department accepts more than 10 specialist advanced students each year, recruits 3-5 postgraduates for master's degree and 1-2 postgraduates for doctoral degree.
